Jacket, part of a costume for a dancer.

The garment was designed by Alexandre Benois for The Ballet Russes production of La Pavillion d’Amide, which opened in 1909. Costumes from La Pavillion d’Amide are thought to have been repurposed in a later production, Le Mariage d'Aurore (Aurora's Wedding), which opened in 1922.

The jacket is hand painted with blue crescents, it has blue velvet puff sleeves and beaded detail to reverse (some beads are detached and missing). The jacket fastens to the front using hook and eyes. A label stitched to the inside collar features the name “Gordon”, possibly the name of a dancer or character.

The jacket would have been worn with a pair of shorts, see BRS.G.06.
