The Chelsea College of Arts Degree Show Slides Collection is a large collection of over 4,000 slides that document the work of graduating students at Chelsea from 1966 until 2000. In my capacity as Assistant Archivist – Cataloguing and being responsible for the cataloguing of this fascinating collection, I became very familiar with and fond of the work produced by the students between these years.
Cataloguing these slides was a fairly overwhelming task at first due to the sheer scale of the collection, but the work was very rewarding and hopefully will act as a valuable research tool for students and the general public alike. It was fascinating to see how the courses changed, how styles and mediums come and go and even how the students use of the studio space evolved over time. Due to the scale of the collection it’s not possible to showcase all of the commonalities and differences apparent in the slides, however I have gone through and chosen my ‘Best Of’ for each individual year. Of course this is subjective and I encourage you to browse the entire collection on the collections page and choose your own.
