Note from alumni: Lucy Caithness. "I graduated in 1984. A contemporary from my year has a slide in the grouping (Polly Buchanan) and she clarified this. There were about five students who were unable to complete their thesis so they carried through to 85.

Both paintings are oils on canvas. One is a self portrait with fan and the other a still life. I spent most of the first two years at Chelsea in the life room and these were my attempts to break free from that. I got permission to work from home in the final year as I found the studio's rather bleak. The still life in particular was an arrangement grouped on the canvas rather than my creating the still life in front of me, although I used objects, and myself from behind."
