This animation showcases a digital model which transforms between a ‘stitched’ and ‘exploded’ format, emphasising the connection of the garment’s flat pattern pieces and their assembled form.
This animation showcases a pattern cutting investigation using digital garment simulation technology, CLO3D and Blender, with an archival garment to examine past pattern cutting methods. Focusing on a Bill Gibb artefact, housed at the Central Saint Martins Museum and Study Collection, the garment was examined and measured over three observations, informing a reinterpretation of the garment’s pattern cutting approach. The project aims to uncover previously hidden techniques embedded in the garment, revealing insights from the past to the consciousness of new audiences.
