The invitation and menu for the 42nd Double Crown Club Dinner, which was chaired by John Johnson and held at the Cafe Royal on 7 March 1934.
The speaker was James Guthrie, who introduced the subject of 'The Hand Printer and his Work'. The invitation was printed at the Curwen Press. It sets out the date, location and price of the dinner, provides instructions for replying and informs invitees of the speaker and menu designer.
The menu was designed by Hubert Foss. It consists of four printed sides and a clear plastic cover, which protects the photograph printed on the fornt page, which shows a music score superimposed over an open book. As well as the bill of fare and details of the key attendees, the menu includes a handwritten score with lyrics for 'Grace after meat: A new round to be sung by Double Crown Club members together' The indication that Foss designed and wrote the menu and acknowledgement of the 'many others' who helped him is written in Latin on the final page.
